Exorealism

Exorealism – 2nd individual exhibition (2014)

Produced from the 1990s, the works of Arnaldo Dias Baptista selected for the “Exorealism” exhibition integrate the atmosphere of Arnaldo’s atelier-musical studio in his countryside house in Minas Gerais State. There are drawings, paintings, objects, collages and assemblages that reach us as if they were vehicles for locomotion and access to sound-spatial structures from other times, beings and places.

With strong visual inspiration in lysergy, Arnaldo Dias Baptista presents us with words, chants and images in a tropical Sci-Fi background, in which small pieces emerge, true glam icons – imps that are more like emoticons and stickers – or signs of online communication so used in today’s fast message media. Colors and shapes seek to materialise the invisible nature of the sound, applied to the holophonic concept of binaural recording, are discovered by the representation of instruments present in some of this exhibition’s works – what has revived his training and trajectory as a musician and artist since the 1960s.

Due to the lack of artistic limits in the multidimensional experimentation of freedom and courage of his ideals, Arnaldo Dias Baptista offers us, in this second individual show, works that channel his purest intuitive and mental energy, confirming that asceticism made him achieve his own vital recreation in embodying, par excellence, libido and emotionally, his role as a performer in a wizard’s hat.
