Shining Alone – Live – TUCA SP – recorded in february 14th, 1981, released digitally in 2013
Shining Alone has the power to take us to the year 1981, to one of the chairs of TUCA Theater, where this historical Arnaldo Baptista’ solo performance took place, was recorded and, until 2013, unpublished.
From the chair I’m sitting on, I can see the roadie fixing the guitar’s “hole”, commented by Arnaldo on track 6. I am embraced by the sweetness of his chat with the audience, from where I draw air to dive again into the depth of the songs that overflow melancholy and loneliness, even in joyful moments, present in the very aesthetic of the show: Arnaldo in the company of just a guitar, a piano and a Hammond organ that is “an American thing, but it works, right?”.
If in studio recordings the emotion already guided the production, in a live record this spontaneity becomes even stronger and more touching. In the repertoire, his classics mix with versions of Bach and Mozart, Bob Dylan and Rolling Stones, breaking barriers of musical genre and aesthetic concepts. Thanks to Luiz Calanca, who recorded the show in precarious conditions in 1981, now, another barrier is broken: that of time.
The record also brings the unpublished authoral pearls “Ai Garupa” and “Tacape”. (Lulina, 2013)
